KIPPING is a shoe shop situated in a 17th century house in the city-center of Bregenz, Austria.
Kipping, besides making and selling shoes, also produces individual orthopedic inlays.
GRID´s concept was to present the handmade shoes, the orthopedic procedure, and the offers on sale as one coherent product.
To minimize spatial disruption the furniture is either integrated into the walls or slopes gradually out of the floor to then easily drop down again.
GRID´s sketch sends the customer first into the shoe developing world, organizing the store´s primary actions of scanning and measuring with its additional services of production and sale as a unified flow.
The costumer enters the shop on the right side and after the orthopedic process can decide whether to have a look at the production area in the back, or to sit down in the vaulted lounge area while waiting for his inlays to be produced. He then leaves Kipping through the quick shop on the left.
The consistent color-concept of furniture, floor and wall underlines the shop´s unity as a whole, and focuses the attention on shoe and customer.
